Steelworkers President in Arkansas Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement

On April 6, Trey Huffty, former president of United Steelworkers Local 1731, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas to embezzling funds from the White Hall (near Pine Bluff) union in the amount of $37,368. He had been charged in January. As part of the plea agreement, Huffty will repay all stolen funds. Sentencing is set for August. The union represents employees of Evergreen Packaging. The charge follows a probe by the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Labor-Management Standards.
