“President Clinton’s August 17 grand jury testimony televised today demonstrates that he lied under oath, and continues to lie about the nature of his relationship with Monica Lewinsky. Clinton’s explanation that he was never ‘alone’ with Lewinsky because there were people in other rooms of the White House, or that the word ‘is’ can have an ambiguous meaning, was a new low for the American Presidency.”
“Later in the evening of August 17 Clinton stated that he had ‘an inappropriate relationship’ and that it was ‘wrong,’ but he never admitted that it was sexual. Clinton and his lawyers continue to stand by the truthfulness on his deposition in the Paula Jones case and in this grand jury testimony. Are the American people going to believe that Clinton did not have sex with Lewinsky or that he was never alone with her?”
“The courtesy and respect accorded the President by Ken Starr and his staff belies accusations by Clinton allies.”
